2017 Game Recaps

GAME 11-MANIAX 4, Washington Senators 3

Cade Perrin picked up his second win of the season and second against the Senators in a huge 4-3 win for the Maniax.  Perrin fired 5 innings and allowed three runs, none of them earned, striking out three.  DJ Ledsworth fired an inning of scoreless relief and Ben Blanco pitched the final inning to pick up his first save of the year.  Blanco was helped by a dazzling, game-saving catch by left fielder Brendan Moran for the final out of the game.  On offense, Perrin was the only Ax man to pick up more than one hit, going 2-3 with a run scored.  The Maniax scored their first two runs on back to back RBI singles from Chris Jabiro and Josh Heibeck, and Moran picked up an RBI right after with a ground out.  Other Maniax collecting singles were Tanner Charbeneau and Cory Hamlin, with Hamlin adding a run scored.  The Maniax are now 8-3 on the season and are off to Milwaukee for the Gatorade Championships!

GAME 10-MANIAX 16, Grosse Point Redbirds 5

The Maniax pulled out the split in the double header by scoring five runs in the fifth inning and nine in the sixth to complete the mercy rule win.  Chris Jabiro continued his great work on the mound and pushed his record to 3-0 with another solid performance, striking out five and allowing just three earned runs in his 5 innings of work.  DJ Ledsworth was credited with his third save despite the blowout because he pitched a perfect inning in relief of Jabiro while the score was still very close.  Offensively, Jabiro led the way with three singles, four RBI's and two runs scored, while Cory Hamlin chipped in with a double, single, and three RBI's, including a huge two run, two out double in the 5th to give the Maniax the lead.  Brian Butler continued his torrid season by reaching base five times with two walks and three singles, in addition to scoring two runs, driving in two runs, and stealing three bases.  Kyle Wernert added a double, two singles, two runs scored, and two RBI's, while Ben Blanco added a single, RBI, and three runs scored.  Other Maniax contributing were Cade Perrin with a single, run, and two RBI's (not to mention three SWEET backwards K's!), and Brendan Moran and Ledworth each added singles.  Josh Heibeck scored a pair of runs and Jaylon Smelser was on base a couple times and scored a run.  The win pushes the Maniax to 7-3 on the season.

GAME 9-Grosse Point Redbirds 12, MANIAX 6

The Maniax dropped the first game of a double header despite pounding out 13 hits in the game and having a lot of opportunities to score.  Kyle Wernert and Cade Perrin each scored a pair of runs, with Perrin going 3-4 with a double and a pair of RBI's.  Wernert added a pair of singles and Ben Blanco had a single, run scored, and an RBI.  Brian Butler scored the only other Maniax run and reached base four times with a single and three walks, and Brady Chicone added a pair of singles.  Other Maniax collecting hits were DJ Ledsworth, Brendan Moran, Josh Heibeck, and Jaylon Smelser.  On the mound, Kyle Wernert took the loss, striking out three in his three innings of work, and received relief help from Brendan Moran (3 K's in 2 innings) and Brian Butler (0 runs in one inning).  The Maniax fall to 6-3 in the MABF after the loss.

 

GAME 8-Greyhounds Baseball 4, MANIAX 3

The Maniax held the lead for most of this one but the Greyhounds got a clutch 2 run single in the bottom of the 5th to sneak out the win.  Tanner Charbeneau took the loss on the mound in relief of Cade Perrin despite pitching a solid two innings and allowing two earned runs.  Perrin fired the first four innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out four.  Offensively for the Maniax, Brian Butler had a doulbe, run scored, and three stolen bases, while Perrin and Cory Hamlin each added an RBI single.  Kyle Wernert drove in the other Maniax run with a perfect squeeze bunt, while Ben Blanco added a single and a run scored.  The loss drops the Maniax record to 6-2 on the season.

 

GAME 7-MANIAX 5, Greyhounds Baseball 3

It's no surprise that the Maniax displayed a little more of that first inning magic as they pounded out four runs to set the tone for the game.  In the inning, DJ Ledsworth had an RBI double, Brendan Moran had an RBI fielders choice, Cory Hamlin laced an RBI single, and Tanner Charbeneau had an RBI with a bases loaded hit by pitch.  Moran added another big insurance run with an RBI single in the 5th inning to ice it away.  On the game, Ben Blanco had a pair of singles and two runs scored and Brady Chicone added a single to round out the hitting attack.  Josh Heibeck picked up the win on the mound, firing the first four innings and allowing two earned runs while striking out three.  DJ Ledsworth picked up his second save of the season, striking out three in three scoreless innings of work.  The Maniax are now 6-1 on the season

GAME 6-MANIAX 6, Michigan Brewers 4

The Maniax continued their first inning magic by scoring three runs on a Cade Perrin RBI single and a Kyle Wernert 2-run double to set the tone in this one.  Perrin and Wernert were at it again in the 5th inning as Perrin laced a 2-run single and Wernert had an RBI single, accounting for the other three runs.  Perrin and Brian Butler each scored a pair of runs in the game, while DJ Ledsworth added a single, double, and a run scored and Wernert was a perfect 3-3.  Ben Blanco and Chris Jabiro each added singles in the win.  On the mound for the Maniax, Kyle Wernert started and fired the first four innings, allowing just one earned run and striking out one.  Brendan Moran picked up the win in relief of Wernert, firing two innings and striking out four.  DJ Ledsworth got the final three outs for the save for the Maniax, who are now 5-1 on the season.

GAME 5-MANIAX 5, Michigan Brewers 3

Chris Jabiro dominated on the mound and Ben Blanco provided the thunder as the Maniax defeated a tough Brewers team 5-3.  Jabiro fired all six innings, striking out eleven and allowing just one earned run.  Blanco smashed a long 2-run home run and scored a pair of runs to lead the offense, and Kyle Wernert added a double and a pair of runs scored.  Brendan Moran and Cory Hamlin each added sacrifice flies and Josh Heibeck had an RBI single to round out the offensive attack for the Maniax, who are now 4-1 on the season

GAME 4-MANIAX 7, Washington Senators 2

The Maniax jumped out early in this one with three runs in the first inning and cruised to a relatively easy win over the Senators.  Cade Perrin picked up the win on the mound by firing a strong 5 2/3 innings, striking out six.  Josh Heibeck retired all four batters he faced to close it out for the Maniax, striking out one.  On offense, Brian Butler continued to smash the ball with a double and a pair of singles, while Ben Blanco added a double, single, and an RBI.  Perrin helped his own cause with an RBI and a run scored, Kyle Wernert had an RBI single and a pair of runs scored, Chris Jabiro had a pair of singles, DJ Ledsworth had an RBI double and a run scored, and Josh Heibeck had a clutch 2 run single to ice the game away.  The win puts the Maniax at 3-1 on the season.

GAME 3-Clinton Township Yellow Jackets 7, MANIAX 6

The Maniax held the lead for most of this one but just couldn't put it away as the Jackets scored four in the 6th and one in the 7th to beat the Ax Men on a walkoff single in the 7th.  Kyle Wernert was brilliant on the mound for the Maniax, allowing just one earned run in his 5 2/3 innings of work, striking out three.  Ben Blanco was the losing pitcher, allowing a couple of hits in the final inning.  On offense, Brian Butler continued his hot hitting going 3-4 with a pair of doubles and three runs scored.  DJ Ledsworth added a pair of singles and an RBI, Cade Perrin had an RBI single, and Brady Chicone pitched in with a two run single of his own.  The loss puts the overall Maniax record at 2-1 on the season.

 

GAME 2-MANIAX 13, Jet Box 6

The Maniax fell behind 5-1 early in this one but battled back with a huge nine run 3rd inning and never looked back to complete the sweep of Jet Box.  Brendan Moran picked up the win on the mound in relief of Josh Heibeck, who fired the first three innings and struck out three.  Moran was rock solid in his four innings of relief, allowing just one unearned run while striking two but allowing very little good contact from the Jet Box hitters.  On offense, Brian Butler scorched the ball, going 3-3 with a double, four runs scored, and an RBI.  Cade Perrin pitched in with a double, single, and two RBI's, and Brady Chicone added a pair of hits and an RBI.  Ben Blanco and Cory Hamlin each added a double apiece and Tanner Charbeneau had an RBI single.  The win pushes the Maniax record to 2-0 on the young season.

GAME 1-MANIAX 5, Jet Box 4

The Maniax got the league season off on a good note with a 5-4 win over Jet Box behind the pitching of Chris Jabiro and Josh Heibeck.  Jabiro picked up the win on the mound, firing five strong innings and allowing no earned runs while striking out eight batters.  Heibeck picked up the save for Jabiro, firing two scoreless innings and striking out two.  Offensively, the Maniax scored all their runs in the first two innings behind some hot hitting up and down the lineup.  DJ Ledsworth had an RBI double and a run scored, Brendan Moran had an RBI single, and Ben Blanco pitched in with an RBI groundout in the first inning.  In the second inning, Brian Butler singled and scored a run while Kyle Wernert executed a perfect squeeze bunt to drive in Tanner Charbeneau with the 5th and final run for the Maniax.  Cade Perrin was 2-4 with a double and a run scored and Charbeneau, Jabiro, Blanco and Wernert each added singles in the win.  The Maniax are 1-0 on the young season
